609,975. Pulverulent-fuel burners. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING CO., Inc. March 27, 1946, No. 9441. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1942. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] A nozzle 14, Fig. 1, particularly applicable to a horizontally-disposed pulverulent-fuel burner has a volute inlet 20 and helical ribs 30, the rib nearest the inlet terminating against the nozzle side, as in Fig. 4, while successive ribs extend progressively further across the inlet so that adjacent ribs deflect substantially equal amounts of fuel. A sleeve 40 having deflecting vanes 42 may be mounted in a belled portion 41 of the burner inlet and may be belled at its upper portion to receive the supply pipe 21, the sleeve 40 being angularly adjustable so that the vanes 42 may deflect fuel from the wall of the supply pipe where it is concentrated and turn it angularly into a position where it may flow in a uniform ribbon along the flat lower surface of the volute inlet 20. After it has been adjusted, the sleeve 40 may be held by flanged collars 44 which may be tightened down like glands against packing 43.
