Abstract
151,548. Bergman, L. H. March 17, 1920. Pulverulent-fuel burners.-In a pulverulent-fuel burner, means are provided whereby the fuel is uniformly distributed in the air current which carries the fuel; the said means being adjustable to suit different air velocities. The burner comproses two slidably connected pipes 3, 5, the forward end of the former being embedded in the furnace wall and forming the fuel inlet to the furnace, the rear end being surmounted by a vertical fuel-supply pipe 8 which discharges fuel on and around the forward conical end 9 of the elbow-shaped air-supply pipe 5. The point of discharge of the fuel on the cone 9 may be altered by adjusting the pipe 5 along the axis of the pipe 3, or by adjusting a pivoted deflector 11 which is provided with side wings 12 and is situated at the lower end of the fuel pipe 8, the former operation being performed by bolts passing through the lugs 18 and the latter operation by means of the handle 14 and retaining-bolt 15. For low airvelocities, the fuel is dropped near the forward edge of the cone 9, the point of discharge being retracted to the base of the cone as the velocities increase. A concentric casing 10 may be situated below the fuel pipe 8 and attached to the pipe 5, in which case the air is divided into two concentric streams, the outer stream carrying the fuel and the inner supplying the air for combustion. A hinged inspection door 22 having a sight-glass 21 is provided in the elbow pipe 5.
