Abstract

606,609. Ring spinning. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Jan. 16, 1946, Nos. 1541 and 1542. Convention dates, Jan. 17, 1945 and March 17, 1945. [Class 120(ii)] A ring spinning machine has a ring which . is detachable, from its traversing means so as to be free to move beyond one end of the field of traverse, irrespective of the position of the traversing means, within limits defined by a stop, so that a length of yarn may be wound either above or below the main mass of yarn on a package by manually raising or lowering the ring. In one modification, Fig. 1, a ring 12 is carried on a plate 14 supported by a ring rail 15 common to several spindles. The plate 14 may be raised from the rail 15 by hand to a position, shown in dotted lines, above the normal traverse of the rail to permit an additional length of yarn to be wound on the bobbin above the main yarn mass. A sleeve 21 is fixed to the plate 14 and is slidable on a guide rod 22 fitted with a stop 23 to limit upward movement. In another modification, guide rods having a stop at their lower ends are attached to the plate 14 and slide in stationary tubes or bushings. A further modification, Fig. 4, has means for allowing the additional length of yarn to be wound at the bottom of a bobbin. A ring 35 is mounted on a plate 37 slidable on a shaft 42 which is fixed to a vertically reciprocating beam 45. The plate 37 is maintained in contact with the beam 45 by a tension spring 49. which is hooked over a stud 50 in a bushing 47 attached to the plate 37 by a member 48. Manual pressure on the plate 37 lowers the plate against an adjustable stop 63 to permit winding of yarn on the bobbin outside the field traversed by the beam 45. This last modification is particularly suitable for use on spinning machines in which the builder motion is operated as disclosed in Specification 568,139.
