Class 120(ii) A device for changing bobbins in spinning machines comprising means for lifting- full bobbins from the spindles is characterised in that full bobbins are lifted by means. of sleeves adapted to be slid over the bobbins and provided with locking. members comprising balls or rollers movable in recesses in the sleeves, said recesses. being devised in a manner such as to permit of the sleeves being moved downwards over the bobbins and upon movement in the opposite direction to compel the balls or rollers to engage the yarn wound on the bobbins. As shown the device comprises a beam 1 extending along the length of the machine and carrying for each spindle a bracket 2 having at its free end a sleeve 3. This sleeve is provided with recesses 4 the depth or width of which increases downwardly and which house balls or rollers 5. A tube 7 having slots 6 of width less than the diameter of the balls is inserted into the sleeve 3 toprevent the balls leaving the recesses. Further recesses 8 housing balls 9 and helical springs 10 which urge the balls 9 through corresponding openings in the tube 7 are provided above the recesses 4. An arm projecting from the sleeve 3 carries an empty bobbin holder which comprises a clamping device having two substantially semi-circular legs 13 pivotedly mounted at 14 and acted upon by a spring 15 which legs surround a post 16 carrying a head 17 in which is provided a. spring 18 acting upon a stud 19. Mechanism comprising rotatable and axially movable shafts 33 having crank-like links 34 attached to their upper ends, piston 36 operating in a cylinder 37, rack 42, gear wheels 41, gear wheels 39 and a shaft 40 is provided for moving the beam 1 so as to lower the sleeve 3 over a full bobbin, lift the sleeve up so that it removes the full bobbin from the spindle and for transferring an empty bobbin from the holder 13-19 to the spindle.
