Abstract

787,660. Bobbin supporting means for creels. PLESSEY & CO., Ltd. Feb. 13, 1956 [March 25, 1955], No. 8707/55. Addition to 732,137. Class 120(2) A bobbin supporting device for suspending bobbins in creels comprises a tubular sleeve 1 having supporting means at one end for attachment to the creel, bobbin supporting members (levers 3) carried by and adjacent the opposite end of sleeve 1, a spindle 9 mounted within the bore of the sleeve 1, a collar 21 surmounting the sleeve 1, slidable axially along the sleeve and connected to the spindle 9 in a relatively rotatable manner, means above and below this connecting means for imparting angular motion to the springle 9 as a result of axial two-way movement of the collar to permit movement of the supporting levers 3 into and out of their bobbin supporting position. In the embodiment shown the connection between the collar 21 and the spindle 9 consists of pins 22 engaging an annular groove 10 in the spindle the pins 22 sliding in slots 23 in sleeve 1. In operation, to release a bobbin from the supported position shown it is first pushed upwards in consequence of which the collar 21 is raised. This causes cam surfaces 14 on spindle 9 to engage pin 20 protruding from inside of sleeve 1 which results in rotation of the spindle 9. On downward movement of the collar 21 and spindle 9 lower cam surfaces 15 on the spindle engages with a further pin 24 on the sleeve 1 rotating the spindle 9 still further until pin 24 engages in one of the shorter splines 13 thus limiting downward movement of the spindle 9 and allowing the levers 3 to collapse into a slot 25 at the end of the spindle and so release the bobbin. In applying a new bobbin the collar 21 is again moved upwards, the spindle 9 again rotated such that the pin 24 now engages one of the longer splines 12. This permits the spindle 9 to move further downwards such that the levers 3 are prevented from collapsing by the periphery of the spindle 9 and the bobbin 26 is supported.
