Abstract

1,098,359. Winding waste yarns. LEESONA CORPORATION. Sept. 10, 1965 [Dec. 18, 1964], No. 38835/65. Heading D1J. A rotatable spindle for winding up waste yarn comprises a tapered body 8, Fig. 2, a plurality of rods 56 spaced around the body, and holding means 78 for pressing the rods 56 into an operably expanded position on the tapered body 8 to support yarn windings, the holding means 78 being releasable to free the rods 56 for movement towards the narrow end of the body 8 to a collapsed position where the rods retract from supporting the yarn windings. As shown the body 8 is hollow and the rods 56 extend at one end into slots 54 in a base cap 52. The other end of each rod is bent back on itself as at 58. Extending into the smaller end of the conical body 8 is a stud 62 having three channels 72 that are in alignment with three slits 70 in the body 8. The ends 58 of the rods 56 slide in the channels 72. To remove a waste yarn package the disc 78 is unscrewed from the spindle 76 and the package rods are pushed towards the apex of the cone. The body 8 is disposed below the main package spindle (14), Fig, 1 (not shown), the spindle (14) having means (40) to snag the yarn and So commence winding of yarn onto the main package spindle.
