Abstract

606,121. Valve accessories. GRATZMULLER, J. L. July 13, 1945, No. 18011. Convention date, Feb. 24, 1942. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] In a valve for fluids under pressure, the usual stuffing box is replaced by an annular part or sleeve 5 of elastic material such as natural or synthetic rubber adhering by the whole of its inner surface to the outer surface of the valve spindle 4 and by the whole of its outer surface to the inner surface of the valve casing 1 or of a member rigid therewith such as the metal sleeve 9, the movement of the valve spindle being permitted by the elastic deformation of the sleeve 5. The valve is closed against the action of the fluid pressure tending to open it by a control spindle 3 acting on the valve spindle 4 through a non-rotatable member 11 or a flexible diaphragm 6 or, as shown, through both. The valve spindle 4 is of hard metal and has a coned end 2 of hard metal which closes against a seat of more malleable metal which ensures a progressive resistance to the closing effort exerted on the valve. Specification 521,829, [Group XXVI], is referred to.
