Abstract

265,144. Merco Nordstr÷m Valve Co., (Assignees of Nordstr÷m, S. J.). Feb. 1, 1926, [Convention date], Plug cocks. - A plug cock in which lubricant under pressure is used to lift the plug from its seat for lubrication comprises a flexible ring or flange 14 formed integrally with a screwed sleeve 15 screwed on the spindle 16 and having superposed compressed packing 17. In opening the cock the screwed spindle moves the screwed sleeve 15 downwards thus relieving the compression of the packing 17 until the lower end of the sleeve, at 30, abuts upon the plug 10 thus locating the open position of the cock and bringing to a minimum the pressure between working surfaces of the plug and casing. In closing the cock the sleeve 15 is moved upwards thus increasing the ccmpression of the packing, and consequently the pressure between the working faces of the plug and casing, to a maximum which also locates the closed position of the cock. Lubricant is forced in the usual manner from a chamber 47 by a screw 48 through grooves 42 into a lower chamber 39, and also through a radial hole 50 to the screw threads.
