A valve or bibcock comprises a body 10 having a bore connecting an axial inlet 11 defining a valve seat with a side outlet 12, a closure member 15 comprising a rigid backing element 16 and a resilient washer 17, an axially movable operating spindle 14 adapted on inward movement to force the closure member against the seat and on retractive movement to allow the closure member to be forced from the seat by inlet pressure, and an additional sealing disc or washer 18 interposed between the inner end of the spindle and the closure member and making sealing contact with the bore to prevent leakage from the valve. The additional sealing disc may be of resilient material and may be backed by a metal disc 19.
