Abstract

966,203. Piston packings; valves. A. LINS. March 13, 1962 [March 16, 1961], No. 9569/62. Headings F2T and F2V. A seal between a cylindrical housing 1 and the plunger 2, Fig. 1, of a fluid mixing valve, e.g. for hot and cold water, as described in Specification 966,202, comprises a resilient O-ring 8 bearing on converging cylinder and piston surfaces 1b, 2b which define, as viewed in axial direction, at least one end of an annular space 7 between the housing and the plunger, the latter being adapted to close an orifice. The plunger may be actuated by a temperature-sensitive control device and includes a valve member 3 adapted to co-operate with a seat 4 to regulate the flow of water from a chamber 5 into which the water is introduced through an orifice 6. The water pressure forces the ring 8 into contact with the surfaces 1b, 2b, the ring remaining into contact due to its deformation with these surfaces and surfaces 1a, 2a, whether the plunger is at rest as in Fig. 1 or is moved relative to the housing as in Fig. 2. There is no relative displacement between the ring and the plunger or housing.
