Abstract

891,352. Valves. DISTILLERS CO. Ltd. Jan. 13, 1959 [Feb. 6, 1958], No. 3855/58. Class 135. A valve for controlling fluids at high pressure and of low viscosity, e.g. liquid carbon dioxide, comprises body parts 4, 4a, screw-threadedly connected together and formed with a cavity 18 wherein is housed a flexible capsule 9 sealingly connected to the body and an operating member 8 to prevent the controlled fluid contacting the operating mechanism and filled with a substantially non - compressible, high viscosity liquid supporting the capsule. A plunger 2 in screw-threaded engagement with the body part 4a bears at its bottom upon a plate 6 which rests upon the operating member 8 and is held against rotation by a pin 7. On operation of the plunger from outside the body to close a valve member 13 upon its seat, the liquid in the capsule is displaced to extend or contract the capsule. Leakage of liquid from the capsule is prevented by a gland ring 19 and a spring 22 assists valve opening. Specification 843,417 is referred to.
