Abstract
605,343. Electric discharge lamps. SCOPHONY, Ltd., and CHARLOTTE, H. F. Nov. 3, 1945, No. 29240. [Class 39 (i)] An electric discharge lamp for stroboscopic purposes has a cathode construction to facilitate cooling, comprising a metal member 10, forming part of the wall of the tube and sealed to glass members 11 and 13, the cathode, consisting of two nickel cylinders 17, 18 with electronemitting material 20 in between, being attached to the member 10 by lugs 19. The inner cylinder 17 may be perforated. Nickel shields 21 and 14 are provided at each end of the cathode and the glass tube 12 through which the discharge passes extends backwards through the shield 14 and within the cathode. In a lamp for D.C. operation the tube 12, which may be formed into a helix is sealed into a glass chamber 23 containing the anode 24, or the anode may be a metal cylinder forming part of the wall as in Fig. 3 (not shown). For A.C. operation the lamp may have both electrodes made to function alternately as a cathode.
