Convention date, Nov. 27, 1944 [Class 100(ii)] Inking-apparatus.-In ink-fountains of the kind comprising a partly submerged roller 11, an adjustable doctor blade 18 co-operating with the roller, and one or more partitions 25 adjustable lengthwise of the roller for sub-dividing the fountain into compartments to receive inks of different colours or types, and wherein an ink-tight seal is provided between the partitions and roller, the seal comprises a pad 34 of pliant material interposed between both the blade 18 and a part of the roller 11, and an arcuate rigid strip 31 also interposed between the partition and roller and extending from the pad around the periphery of the roller to a point at that side of the latter remote from the blade. Each partition is made of metal and is in two parts 26, 27 connected by screws 28 and has an horizontal surface and inclined surfaces 15, 16 adapted to engage corresponding surfaces on the bottom of the trough which is also metal, the partitions being secured in adjusted position by C-clamps 29 engaging lips on the fountain. A groove 32 is formed in the part 27 to receive the member 31 which resembles a sector of a piston ring and is pressed towards the roller 11 by a sheet metal spring 33, and the pad 34 which is made of felt, rubber or two layers of felt laminated with synthetic rubber is let into a groove 35 in the part 26, the friction between the roller 11 and the member 31 causing the latter to force the pad into sealing contact with the roller 11 and the blade 18. For lubrication, grease is forced via a passage 26 into the groove 32 and passes through holes 38 in the member 31 to a channel 39. The doctor blade 18 is held in position by a ledge 21 and is adjusted by screws 22.
