Abstract
PURPOSE: To uniformly apply ink to recesses of a rugged-surfaced printed body and to provide soft printing pressure for preventing failure of material by use of a soft sponge roll as a plate cylinder of a rotary photogravure press.
CONSTITUTION: A gravure printing plate drum roll of a rotogravure press consists of a sponge roll 1 covered on its surface with a continuously foamed elastomeric elastic member. Printing is conducted, with ink 3 in an ink pan 2 fed to the surface of a printed body 4 the roll 1. A rubber roll doctor 5 is arranged parallel with the roll surface of the roll 1 on the ink application side so that the contact surface may be freely rotatable and that the contact pressure against the roll 1 may be variable. While changing the amount of ink applied to the roll 1 by the contact pressure of the doctor 5 against the roll 1, solid printing is conducted on the surface of the printed body 4 which pass between the roll 1 and a pressure drum roll 6.
