Abstract

1342211 Dampening apparatus NORTH AMERICAN ROCKWELL CORP 3 Jan 1972 [10 March 1971] 153/72 Heading B6C A lithographic printing press comprises a plate cylinder 13 which is dampened by a resilient forme roller 20 from a body of dampening fluid held between the roller 20 and a further roller 30 by end plates 71. The forme roller rotates with the plate cylinder, but the roller 30 may be rotated in either direction, and its pressure against the forme roller 20 can be varied by sliding of its bearers 90 in guides. When the roller 30 rotates clockwise a doctor blade 100 prevents an excessive pick-up of dampening fluid. The dampening fluid is preferably water, and may contain alcohol or a wetting agent.
