Abstract

1437653 Printing apparatus G RITZERFELD 18 July 1974 [21 July 1973] 31836/74 Heading B6C A rotary duplicator has means for supplying dampening fluid to sheets to be printed. The drive to this is via two paths. For an initial part of the rotation of printing drum 1, cam 3 actuates toothed sector 6a to drive roller 10. When the copy sheet reaches the bite between roller 33 and printing cylinder 1, the toothed sector is returned via spring 24, a free wheel in roller 10 allowing this. Drive thereafter is by friction from the sheet, which is being pulled through by the cylinder 1 and roller 33. The dampening apparatus may include a porous pad, either intermediate two rollers (Fig. 3, not shown), or as the applicator contacting the sheet (Fig. 5, not shown). The whole dampening system may be rocked out of contact with the sheet by a cam carried by the printing drum once per revolution (Fig. 5, not shown).
