Abstract
923,659. Printing-machines. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. Dec. 28, 1960 [Dec. 28, 1959], No. 44517/60. Class 100 (2). A gripper cylinder 4 for transferring sheets from one printing unit to the next unit in a multi-colour rotary press has circumferential wire helices 15 mounted thereon to prevent smearing of the ink on the sheets. The ends of the helical springs 15 carry nipples 14 slidable in slots in guide rails 7 mounted on plates 5, 6 fixed to the end discs of the cylinder, whereby the helices can be adjusted longitudinally of the cylinder. The sheet-metal shell of the cylinder may have a covering consisting of a fabric backing with a rubber layer in which are embedded very small glass balls. Alternatively, strips of carboard or felt may be glued on the shell or a cut-out cardboard covering may be provided, the gaps in the strips or covering registering with the printed parts of the sheet. When a covering is provided, the longitudinal edges may be secured to spindles 8, 9 mounted in the plates 5, 6 and toothed for engagement by spring-pressed pawls 11, 12.
