603,500. Mixing-machines. AHEARN, J. C. Oct. 22,1945, No. 27721. Convention date, Feb. 20. [Class 86] A concrete mixer of the tilting drum type comprises a rotary drum 5 secured to a spindle 6 rotatably mounted in a bracket 3 pivoted between uprights 2 of a supporting stand. The drum is rotated by a prime mover such as a petrol engine 13 mounted outside one of the uprights 2, through a shaft 12 which passes through one of the pivots of the bracket 3. A spindle, supported by the bracket 3 and driving the spindle 6 through reduction gearing enclosed in a casing 7, is itself driven from the shaft 12 by gearing located on the inside of the upright 2 supporting the engine 13. The latter gearing may comprise an endless belt 9 and pulleys 8, 10, while the reduction gearing may be of worm type. The drum 5 may be tiltable by a hand lever 14 pivoted on a side extension of the bracket 3 and which may be engaged selectively in one of a number of notches in a quadrant 16.
