Abstract

1354832 Mowers MASON & PORTER Ltd 5 July 1972 [6 July 1971] 31396/72 Heading A1F [Also in Divisions F2K and F2Q] In a friction drive for a lawn mower in which driving rollers 52 contact wheels 51 to drive them, the rollers 52 are mounted on a driven shaft 22 supported in pivotable members 29, pivoted by a manually operated member 34 through an overcentre toggle arrangement, so that the drive may be selectively engaged or disengaged. As shown in Fig. 2 the members 29 are pivoted on a shaft 20, on which is provided a tube 20a (Fig. 1) driven by an electric motor 13 through pulleys 15, 27, 28 and belts 14, 26, this tube having a pulley (or sprocket) 24 from which there is a drive to shaft 22. The pivoting of the members 29 is achieved through the member 34, a rod which is pushed or pulled, members 31, 32 and 33 and an adjustable member 41 one end of which is attached to a spacer 30 between members 29 and the other is pivoted to the member 33. On pulling of the rod 34 the shaft 31 is rotated by member 33 which also rotates member 33 and causes the rollers 52 to contact the wheels and the toggle to go overcentre as the member 41 is thereby moved. A spring 50 provides counterbalance for the toggle arrangement. The lawn mower also comprises a rotary blade 11 in a bell housing 10, driven by the motor 13, from pulley 13 via belt 14, and the wheel 4 is adjustable for height.
