601,954. Speed governors. SOC. ANON. SOLEX. Oct. 25, 1939, No. 28674. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1938. [Class 57] In speed-regulating devices for internalcombustion engines comprising an unbalanced valve arranged in the induction pipe and urged into open position by a spring, the tension of the spring, and consequently the permitted speed of the engine, can be increased by means under control of the accelerator-pedal, gearlever, or like member. The device shown is similar to that described in Specification 431,293 and comprises an unbalanced valve 1 co-operating with abutments 4<1>, 4<2> on a lever 5 connected to the accelerator-pedal, a spring 3 urging the valve into open position, and a spring-adjusting means comprising a sleeve 19 geared to a lever 16 which is connected by a cable 14 to a hand-lever. The cable 14 is now provided with a slidable sleeve 20 abutting on a spring 12<1> and a lever 25 pivotally connected to a rod 27 which passes through a pivoted stud 29 on the lever 5 and has a collar 30 for engaging the stud. When the accelerator-pedal is depressed abnormally, the stud engages the collar, the lever 25 displaces the sleeve 20, the tension of the spring 3 is increased, the valve is fully opened, and the permitted maximum speed of the engine is increased. The spring 12<1> may be replaced by a lighter spring and a spring-ball which normally engages a groove in the sleeve 20. The rod 27 may be connected to a lever abutting on a rod in connection with the spring 3, the arrangement enabling the spring-tension to be increased without movement of the lever 16 and cable 14. In another arrangement, the gear-lever or other gearmember is connected, for instance by a cable, to the lever 16 or equivalent member.
