Abstract

412,262. Spray carburetters. ECLIPSE MACHINE CO., Elmira, New York, U.S.A. Dec. 23, 1932, No. 36426. Convention date, Dec. 28, 1931. [Class 7 (iii).] Means are provided which maintain the mixture throttle partly open during starting, but automatically move it to idling position when starting has been effected. Stalling of the engine is also prevented, as the device operates automatically to move the throttle to the partly open position when the engine tends to stop. Fig. 1 shows the throttle 3 actuated by an arm 6 connected to the usual control, an arm 9 loosely mounted on the throttle spindle 4 being connected to a piston 16 subjected to the suction in the inlet manifold by a pipe 18. When starting the engine, the throttle is held in the partly open position shown by a spring 14 acting on the arm 9, which bears through an adjustable stop 8 on a projection 7 on the control arm 6. After starting has been effected, the engine suction acting on the piston 16 overcomes the action of the spring 14 and allows the throttle to close to idling position. This latter position is regulated by an adjustable stop 12, and a further adjustable stop 21 regulates the starting position of the throttle. In a modification, Fig. 5, the throttle is made in two parts 24, 26 movable relatively to one another between stops 27, 28 by a spring 32, the effect of which is overcome, and the two parts of the throttle brought into alignment, by the engine suction when starting has been effected.
