623,744. Speed governors. SOC. ANON. SOLEX. May 28, 1946, No. 16195. Convention date, May 31, 1945. [Class 57] [Also in Group XXVII] . A device by which the loading of the spring 69, Fig. 16, of a valve 68 in the induction pipe of an internal combustion engine can be adjusted when the engine is cold is characterized by the interposition, in the transmission between the operating member 7, Fig. 2, and the part 8 connected to the adjusting lever 73 of the valve of the connecting pieces 16, 17 which are in driving contact below a certain temperature and which are automatically separated above said temperature whereby the lever 73 is returned to its normal position. The pieces 16, 17 may be bimetallic strips pivoted in a casing 2 on an engine-heated pipe 1, and when the engine is cold they overlap so that actuation of the member 7 moves the rod 8 to rotate a screwed cap 71 to adjust the governor spring load, a spring returning the rod 8 and cap 71 to their normal positions when the strips 16, 17 become separated as the engine heats up. In a modification the pieces 16, 17 are forced past a temperature responsive capsule, and in another modification the operating lever 7 and the operated part 8 are attached to cylinders containing a fusible substance such as paraffin wax so that the cylinders rotate together at low engine temperature but are free when the paraffin wax melts.
