Abstract

601,952. Helicopters. BRUEL, A. A. L. June 22, 1945, No. 1275/47. Convention date, Dec. 5, 1942. Divided out of 601,909. [ Class 4] A variable-pitch sustaining airscrew with principal blades 1 is associated with a coaxial secondary airscrew rotating above it and having blades 10 each connected to an arm 13 integral with one of the blades 1 by a linkage 11, 12 so that the pitch of the blade 1 is reduced or increased as the blade 10 flaps up or down during its rotation. This periodic change of pitch and the setting in advance of the secondary blades 10 prevents flapping of the blades. The shaft 7 which carries the secondary airscrew is keyed to the driving shaft 5 and is capable of being moved vertically by lever 23 so that all the blades 10 are raised or lowered to vary the pitch of all the blades 1 when required by the pilot.
