Abstract
606,447. Rotary wing aircraft. ISACCO, V. Nov. 27, 1945, No. 32038. [Class 4] The sustaining rotor of a helicopter or rotary parachute comprises telescopic blades, each section 2 being provided internally of its trailing edge with a bearer 8 engaging the trailing edge of the section located within it. Outward movement of the blade sections is limited by shoulders 5, 6 at their ends. In the form shown in Fig. 6, longitudinal ribs 14 are provided on the inner surface of each section, engaging complementary grooves on the outer surface of the inner section. Fig. 7 shows a rotor hub construction, the rotor being tiltable about a ball joint 51, collective pitch control of the blades being effected by a member 28. Brake elements 54, 55 are engaged when the pitch setting is sufficiently great to overcome the force exerted by a spring 30. The blades may be driven by jet units or by an elastic motor as described in Specifications 590,612 and 601,912 respectively, or by the fall of the aircraft as described in Specification 583,767. Specification 592,896 also is referred to.
