613,715. Rotary-wing aircraft. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., and BENNETT, J. A. J. June 27, 1946, No. 19262. [Class 4] In a rotary-wing aircraft, having a single main rotor b for sustentation and twin outboard propellers c for propulsion, the rotor torque is counterbalanced by a moment resulting from the differential thrust of the propellers c; means for adjusting the pitch of the propellers in opposite senses are provided for control in yaw; and also means are provided for adjusting the collective pitch of the propellers thereby varying the distribution of power from the engine g between the rotor and the propellers. A hand-lever may be provided for the latter adjustment and may, further, when the adjustment is such that all the power of the engine g is absorbed by the propellers c, be used for de-clutching the rotor drive, leaving the rotor in auto-rotation; thus progressive conversion in flight from helicopter to rotaplane operation is possible. A single control-lever 17 is provided for tilting the rotorhead in longitudinal and transverse directions.
