Abstract

600,889. Wave-guides. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., and HARRIS, N. L. Nov. 30, 1945, No. 32490. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XL (a)] A discharge device 14, containing gas and/or vapour and provided with obstructions 16 of insulating material in shot form, is supported between boundary surfaces 17, 18 of a resonant cavity 19 formed in a metal body 10. The metal body 10 is inserted transversely across a wave-guide and a discharge takes place inside the device 14 when the input energy to the guide rises above a certain level. The obstructions 16 are preferably of glass shot of diameter 0.2- mm., and may be of approximately the same size or of different sizes. The filling is a mixture of argon and neon. A prior art electrodeless discharge device packed with glass wool and having a filling of a NE-HE mixture containing less than 1 per cent A is also referred to.
