A directional coupling switch for waveguides 43, 44 comprises a tube 41 closed at both ends and fitted into the common wall between the waveguides. The tube is of quartz or glass, metallized, and is pressed against spring blades 45 by insulating blocks 48, 49 to ensure electrical contact. The tube 41 contains ionizable gas and may have circular, oval or polygonal cross-section.
