657,027. Electron discharge apparatus. POSTMASTER GENERAL. Feb. 6, 1948, No. 3584. [Class 39 (i)] The argon content of the residual gas remaining after evacuation in an electron discharge device having an oxide-coated cathode is further reduced by flushing the envelope with a gas having no deleterious effects on the electrodes, e.g. carbon dioxide, and evacuating again. The process may be repeated, and the remaining traces of flushing gas are finally cleaned up by gettering.
