447,047. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and FRANCIS, V. J., and RYDE, J. W., c/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Wembley, Middlesex. Oct. 11, 1934, No. 29132. [Class 39 (i)] In the manufacture of double-walled, highpressure, metal-vapour lamps a filling of oxygen, preferably at a pressure of 10 to 100 mm., or of a gas mixture containing oxygen in the free state such as air, is maintained in the space between the two walls, while the lamp is operated by the full normal running current and/or baked. The filling is subsequently evacuated and as a result blackening of the envelope is prevented. In a modification of the process the inner envelope is treated in the atmosphere by running the discharge and/or baking, and is afterwards mounted within the outer envelope, care being taken to handle the inner envelope as little as possible during the mounting in the outer. The envelope may be made of material as set out in Specification 431,651.
