Abstract

600,636. Regulating. FABIAN, H. E. Sept. 27, 1945, No. 25096. Convention date, Oct. 5, 1944. [Class 7 (vi)] In an engine having an air throttle 14 operated conjointly with the control rod 18 of a fuel injection pump 1, automatic correction of the air-fuel mixture is obtained under varying load by a compensator operated as a function of the engine speed. In Fig. 1, a centrifugal governor 2 controls an eccentricallypivoted lever 6 connected to an eccentric pivot 10 supporting a compensating lever 11 connected to the throttle 14 and to the control rod 18 through a lever 17 pivoted at 17a and sliding in a knuckle joint 16. Opening of the throttle 14 causes the rod 18 to move in the direction F to increase the fuel supply, but as the speed rises the governor 2 rotates lever 6, causing the lever 11 to rotate about the point 20 and move rod 18 in the opposite direction to correct the fuel supply in accordance with increased pump efficiency at higher speeds. The positioning of the joint 16 arranges that the correction increases progressively with opening of the throttle 14. A capsule 22 actuating a lever 21 further adjusts the fuel supply for varying atmospheric temperature and pressure, and manual operation of a button 31 connected to an abutment 32 rotates the lever 21 to enrich the mixture at starting. In a modification, the centrifugal governor is replaced by a spring-controlled piston actuated by hydraulic pressure supplied by an enginedriven pump.
