Abstract

600,516. Rectifying. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., MOIR, J., and BAKER, W. S. GRAFF-. Aug. 21, 1945, No. 21333. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] In a thermionic voltage regulator (Fig. 2) of the type in which current flows from a source 1 to a D.C. load circuit 2 through a tube 3, the potential of the control electrode of which is controlled by a second tube 5 in accordance with the relation of the voltage derived from the potentiometer 7 across the load circuit to the voltage of a reference source 10, changes of this voltage with temperature are compensated by a temperature-dependent resistor 9 connected in series with the potentiometer and thermally coupled to the reference source. The resistor preferably has a negative temperature coefficient and is of the kind described in Specification 540,844, [Group XXXVI]. Alternatively, a resistor with a positive temperature coefficient may be connected at the lower end of the potentiometer. In a modification (Fig. 1, not shown), the invention is applied to a system similar to that described in Specification 547,588, in which the reference voltage is that across a glow discharge tube connected in series with the control tube 5 across the load circuit. The regulating tube 3 may also act as a rectifier. Specification 568,446 also is referred to.
