Abstract

803,429. Automatic regulation. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 18, 1955 [May 27, 1954], No. 14379/55. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (a)] A stable D.C. voltage is obtained across an unloaded split anode magnetron oscillator supplied from a D.C. source through a linear resistor, by virtue of the low dynamic resistance of the magnetron. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the source 3 supplies the load 5 through resistor 4. The magnetron 6 is shunted across the load with its anodes connected to an unloaded resonant circuit 9, and it is shown that its behaviour is comparable with that of a neon stabilizer tube. The battery 12 is the cathode heater supply. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), two similar arrangements are used but with different working voltages, the differential voltage being applied to the load. In other modifications, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the magnetrons are connected in parallel or in cascade. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, the normal magnetron field 10 is opposed by coils 31 and 32. Coil 31 carries the magnetron current and reduces the normal upward slope of the operating curve of the device by tending to reduce the value of the stabilized voltage as the current through the magnetron increases. Coil 32 carries the load current and by assisting coil 31 improves the regulation. Specification 708,216, [Group XL (a)], is referred to.
