Abstract

597,317. Heating liquids by electricity. KINNEEN, W. P. Aug. 14, 1945, No. 20880. [Class 39 (iii)] A method of vaporizing or gasifying a liquid capable of conducting electricity comprises forcing a jet of the liquid through a tubular nozzle 12 on to a conductive surface or electrode 17 disposed coaxially with the nozzle and passing a current of sufficient intensity through the jet to vaporize or gasify it. The nozzle is conveniently of metal. The liquid is led under pressure via the pipe 13 and non-return valve 14 to the nozzle in a gasifying head 10, which is earthed or connected to the earth potential of the apparatus, and a suitable potential is applied to the electrode, e.g. by a battery 15. Air or other gas may be injected into the head 10 to assist the action. Two or more jets or groups of jets of various liquids may be employed, having different applied potentials, and a tapped battery or three-phase supply system may be used.
