Abstract

964,715. Starting diesel engines. LODGE PLUGS Ltd. April 12, 1962 [April 15, 1961], No. 13667/61. Headings F1B and F1K. A heater plug 10 adapted to be fitted into the induction pipe of a diesel engine for starting, sprays fuel through an atomizer disc 23 in a flat divergent spray into contact with an electric heater coil 18 carried by the plug 10. The fuel flows down a tube 12 which forms an electric conductor for the coil 18 carried by a nut 32. The coil is shielded by a semi-cylindrical shield 31. The spraying orifice 29, Fig. 3, is formed by the intersection of two curved slots 26, 28, Fig. 4, in the disc 25.
