Abstract
237,552. Soudure AutogÞne Fran- þaise. July 23, 1924, [Convention date]. Perforating and dividing by fusion. - In an apparatus for cutting metals by the electric arc and a jet of compressed gas such as oxygen, particularly under sea water, a hollow electrode is secured to the externally insulated front part of a fitting, on which an externally insulated rear part can be slid so as to connect or out off the current and supply of gas to the electrode. One of a number of externally insulated circuits B carrying insulated hollow metal electrodes A is screwed into the end of the front part C of a fitting to which is screwed an ebonite tube E on which may slide an ebonite tube F screwed on the rear part D of the fitting. The part D carries a current lead H and an oxygen inlet and is also provided with a ball valve K so that when the conical surfaces I, J come into contact, the ball is removed from its seat by a projection P and the current to the electrode and the supply of gas therethrough are thus connected. The parts are secured together in operative position. All the parts are surrounded with insulation to prevent the electrolytic action of the water and damage to the operator.
