Abstract
596,885. Twisting yarns &c. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Aug. 3, 1945, No. 19995. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1944. [Class 120 (ii) ] [Also in Group XXV] Yarns &c. are twisted together by a method comprising advancing them in spaced relationship to each other and to a central axis, rotating them about said axis to twist them together, and deflecting a portion of each yarn inwardly towards the axis in the vicinity of the point where they are twisted together, so as to form floatingly connected sliding loops pulling in contrary directions with the depth of each loop inversely proportional to the relative tension of the yarns whereby their tensions are equalised. Mechanism described, for carrying out the method is substantially as set forth in-Specification 572,026, to which reference is made, the tension equaliser- 36, 44 of that Specification being replaced by an adjustable housing 37 having holes 39 therein which are aligned with holes 36 in the end of the spindle 21 for the passage of the yarns, the loops of the yarns 12, 13 moving, say, to 41<1> when the tension in yarn 12 increases and to, say, 41" when the tension in yarn 13 increases. In a modification, the yarns 12, 13, instead of looping about,each other, are passed through a small guide ring floatingly supported in the housing 37.
