Abstract

An "interlaced" (i.e. non-looped) knitting yarn is produced by passing a bundle of parallel (i.e. untwisted or having only "producer twist") threads under controlled tension through a channel in which a turbulent zone is created by a jet of fluid e.g. air, directed tangentially into the channel and possessing a degree of movement in the direction of travel of the bundle. The p threads may be of viscose rayon, cellulose acetate, nylon, polyesters, polyacrylics: they may be, or include, groups of yarns, untwisted (perhaps freshly spun) filaments, and/or fancy e.g. boucle, slub, crimped, filaments or yarns, and the groups may differ as regards form, material and denier.
