Abstract

595,293. Ammunition cartridges. BURNEY, SIR C. D. Dec. 16, 1944, No. 18991/47. Divided out of 595,265. [Class 9 (i)] Fixed ammunition for breech-loaded quickfiring guns comprises a projectile carrying a driving band and having securely attached to its base, as by a screw connection, a cartridge case 2 having a thin perforated wall and having no breech-locating rim or flange at its rear end. The cartridge case may have an imperforate inner wall which protects the propellent charge and which is made of waterproof paper, metal foil or other material which becomes consumed or disintegratos on firing. To allow for irregularities in the ramming home of the projectile in the breech-chamber, the percussion cap 4 is spring mounted so that it may adjust itself correctly in relation to the ignition needle or striker.
