Abstract
1,141,964. Subcalibre practice ammunition. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 6 April, 1966 [9 April, 1965], No. 15434/66. Heading F3A. A practice mortar bomb comprises a dummy bomb 2 housing a sub-calibre practice shell 5 in sub-barrel 3. A chamber 9 in the base 14 of a cartridge case 6 of the shell houses an ejector cartridge 10 in a casing 20 which ruptures on ignition so that the gases pass through a passage 15, 16 into chamber 34 to eject the bomb. Chamber 9 communicates through a passage 12 with a propellant charge, not shown, in the shell 8 and on ignition of this charge gases issuing through holes 35 discharge the shell from sub-barrel 3. The dummy bomb is recovered for re-loading. The shell is retained by a flange 27 engaging a breech 4 which carries a striker pin 33 operated when the bomb drops on to an anvil 32 in the mortar barrel 1. In a modification, the base 14 extends out of the shell which is located by a bayonet joint (39), the breech being omitted. In another modification, a cap (40), Fig. 4, is of varying thickness with different ammunition to ensure uniformity in engaging the fixed striker pin 29.
