[Class 123 (i)] [Also in Groups VI, XXV and XXXVII] In a steam sterilizer a pressure container 20, Fig. 2, is provided with a sealing ring 66 fitted around the inside of an opening 30 adapted to be closed by a resilient door 32 (adapted to be urged toward its sealing position by the pressure within the container) supported in a ferrule 46 attached to a rod 48 which in turn is supported in a sleeve 50, the rectangular neck of which fits loosely into a similar shaped opening in a door supporting strap 56 pivoted at 58 to one side of the container 20. The other end of the sleeve is cam-shaped and engages the complementary shaped extension of handle 64 so that rotation of the handle deforms the contour of the door into engagement with the sealing ring 66. In a modification of the closure means, Fig. 13, the container is provided with a pair of ears to which a hinge 206 is pivotally connected by one leg of a U-shaped hinge pin 208, the other leg forming a pivotal connection between the hinge 206 and one end of a door supporting strap 210. The door 212 and leaf spring 218, which is clamped between door 212 and shoulder 220 of a mounting screw 216, have a central rectangular opening to receive the square section 214 of the screw 216, and are secured thereto by a nut 222. The screw 216 engages the threaded portion 234 of a supporting sleeve 228 which is rotatable in the cylindrical recess 230 formed in a boss 232. The sleeve 228 is attached and rotated by a handle having moulded therein a metal thimble 242 containing a recess which freely receives the outward end of the screw 216, rotation of the handle causing the mounting screw 216 to move outwardly against the influence of the spring 218 and deform the contour of the door into engagement with the sealing ring.
