Abstract
594,736. Fusible cut-outs. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 7, 1945, No. 14354. Convention date, June 9, 1944. [Class 38 (i)] In an electric fuse of the enclosed type, an indicator which changes colour upon operation of the fuse comprises a film of selenium sulphide on the inside surface of a transparent housing and adapted to change colour when mercury vapour is released on blowing of the fuse. In a modification, anhydrous Cobaltous Chloride and water vapour are used. As shown, the fuse is provided with a fusible element 14 in parallel with the main elements 6, 7 and including a circuit interrupting device 15 ; for example, a glass capsule containing mercury. Selenium sulphide is provided on the inner surface of a glass housing 1, the arrangement being such that when the fuse blows the capsule is destroyed and the mercury is vaporized to change the colour of the sulphide.
