Abstract

609,745. Thermal switches. LINDHOLM. J. P. Feb. 4, 1946, No. 3416. Convention date, Oct. 21, 1944. [Class 38 (v)] A switch that opens a circuit in case of fire comprises conductors 2, 3 normally kept in contact by a fusible material such as solder S but which are forced apart by springs 6, 7 when the solder melts. Two pairs of conductors 2, 3 are mounted in the same casing, the fire alarm being given only when both pairs are separated. If one pair only become separated, a defect alarm is given. In order to indicate which switch has operated when a number of switches are included in the same circuit, each switch is provided with an indicating member which is displaced to give a visual indication when one or both pairs of conductors 2, 3 are separated. As shown in Fig. 2, the indicator consists of a ball 10 loosely supported on the horizontal portions of the conductors. When the latter become separated the ball falls and shows through an opening in the bottom of the casing.
