Abstract

593,189. Lighting arrangements for cycles. RALEIGH CYCLE CO., Ltd., and BROWN, W. Oct. 28, 1944, No. 21069. [Class 136 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] A dynamo and speed-gear are combined within the same cycle wheel hub. In the form shown, the one-piece hub shell has a narrow portion 1 containing the gear mechanism and a wider portion 2 having a multi-polar ring magnet 11. The end bearing of the gear extends into the dynamo and comprises a shoulder 6 mounted in the gear housing, a ball-race 7, and a stationary core portion 8 which carries an end plate 25 and a cup-shaped support 15 for the fixed armature winding 26 having terminal clips 27. The gear shell is shortened by the use of plunger pawls 19.
