Abstract

148,600. Brown, S. G. March 26, 1919. Magneto-electric machines.-In a magneto for cycle and motor-car lighting and like purposes, a permanent magnet of U-shape rotates about its longitudinal axis within an armature of annular form. The magnet A is secured to a spindle E by pin a<1>, and its poles a are made of a cylindrical form, as shown. The armature B is built up of laminations stamped out of soft iron with polepieces notched to receive coils C formed to occupy the space between the magnet and the armature ring, as shown. The whole is enclosed in a casing D carrying ball bearings for the spindle E, which is provided with a friction wheel e or other driving-device.
