Abstract

591,609. Spray-producers. NICHOLS, T. W. May 10, 1945, Nos. 11713 and 32592. [Class 69 (iii)] A sprayer comprises an electric motor 1, Fig. 1, mounted in line with an air compressor 3 and a spray-gun 12, a.liquid container 38 mounted above or below or indirectly attached to the gun and a handle 46 for the unit incorporating a switch 42 for the motor operated by a trigger 14 which also simultaneously or subsequently operates a needle valve 16 to control the the flow of liquid through a nozzle 25. Assisted cooling of the motor and compressor is obtained by arranging ports in the end casings of the motor whereby the jet from nozzle 25 discharging through an interchangeable auxiliary nozzle 27 induces a flow of air through the motor and over the compressor and spray gun which also provides the supply for the compressor. Oil for the lubrication of the compressor is supplied from a reservoir 31 through ports, and returned through further ports to the reservoir, mixed with compressed air, where it settles, the air passing on to the gun. Where heavy liquids are to be sprayed the container 38 is pressurised by closing a needle valve 39, Fig. 3, which admits air at atmospheric pressure and opening a needle valve 50 which admits air at nozzle. pressure from a port 33. The motor and compressor may be arranged vertically and the spray gun attached horizontally across the end of the compressor, or at an angle thereto, in which case the container 37 may serve as a handle.
