672,190. Cleaning windscreens. SOC. D'ETUDES ET D'APPLICATIONS INDUSTRIELLES DE PROCEDES ET DISPOSITIFS NOUVEAUX. Sept. 12, 1950 [Sept. 22, 1949], No. 22401/50. Class 138 (i). A windscreen washing-device comprises in combination a liquid reservoir and electro-magnetic means for spraying the liquid on to the windscreen such that a measured quantity of liquid is sprayed at each operation. As shown in Fig. 1, the combined liquid container and electric pump A are mounted beneath the bonnet and connected to a fixed nozzle E. The pump is energised by closing the switch I. In Fig. 2, the liquid container 1 is mounted on the body 3 of a diaphragm pump. The pump chamber 4 communicates with the reservoir through ports 5 controlled by a flap valve 6, and with the spraying jet by a ball valve 7. When the switch is closed the solenoid 12 is energised to lift the armature 10 and diaphragm 8 to discharge a measured quantity of liquid. The spring 9 returns the diaphragm on the suction stroke. Alternatively, the suction stroke may be solenoid operated and the discharge stroke spring operated. The nozzle may be attached to a wiper blade.
