Abstract

662,651. Diaphragm pumps. DELMAN CORPORATION. Dec. 20,1948 [April 12, 1948] No. 32844/48. Class 102 (i) A diaphragm pump has a resilient diaphragm 28 positioned transversely of a casing 23 and actuated on its delivery stroke by a plunger 47, having a limited movement longitudinally of the casing, to a maximum flexed position within the pump chamber 38 in which it is substantially in a full bearing engagement with a convex head 56 of the plunger and means for returning the plunger to a position in which its head is out of engagement with the diaphragm when the latter is in its transverse place. The plunger is returned by a spring 54 which is fully compressed during the delivery stroke to limit the inward movement of the plunger. Liquid from a reservoir is drawn into the pump chamber through an inlet 42 and is delivered through an outlet 43 both of which have one way valves 44. The pump which is intended for supplying clearing liquid to the windshields of automobiles is preferably mounted on the floor thereof and is foot operated. Liquid is delivered to a twin jet nozzle on the windshield.
