Abstract

591,483. Rotary valves. MARCZEWSKI, J. May 10, 1945, No. 11779. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] A rotary valve comprises a longitudinally split sleeve 1, rotated by an axle 5 and fitting resiliently inside a cylindrical casing 2, a port or ports 17 in the sleeve establishing communication between the cylinder 9 and inlet and outlet ports 2a, 2b. In the two-cylinder engine shown, the sleeve is divided into two chambers by a disc 10 packed by a split ring 4', each -chamber being formed by baffles 19<1>. Toothed discs 3, packed by split rings, are keyed to the axle 5 and engage teeth 18 on the sleeve ends. The valve is rotated from the crankshaft by a toothed wheel 8, and lubricant is fed through an inlet 21 and grooves 22. The baffles 19 may be replaced by a solid plug. Specifications 222,015 and 254,900, [both in Class 7 (vi)], are referred to.
