[Class 8 (i)] In a gas compressor of the kind wherein rotary movement of a driving shaft 5 Figs. 1, 3 is resolved' by a crank or eccentric 6 into two sliding motions of a driving member 4, 4a connecting the eccentric 6 with the piston 2, 2a one of which motions being imparted to the piston and the other in transverse relation to the piston, the piston displacing motion of the driving member 4, 4a is transmitted to the piston by an intermediate member 3, 3a. At the start of each piston stroke the member 3, 3a floats in the stroke direction to provide a passage 13 for gas from an intake port 7 and passages 14, 9 to enter a major chamber A, and simultaneously to close a passage 13a to allow gas in a chamber B to be compressed prior to its delivery to a minor chamber D when passages 11a, 12a are in register. The gas after further further compression in.the minor chamber D is finally delivered when ports 10a, 8a are in register. The compressor is double acting and on the return stroke intake is by means of port 7a and passages 14a, 13a and 11a, 9a. In a modification, Fig. 11, two separate single acting pistons 2, 2a are reciprocated by a yoke 31 about the eccentric 6. The minor chambers D are in constant communication with the inlet ports 7, 14 and 7a, 14a. Passage 34 or 34a when not sealed by the inner surface of one or other of the piston heads allows gas to enter the appropriate chamber via passage 13, or 13a, the former not being shown. Outlet passages 9, 11 and 9a, 11a are duplicated so as to increase their cross sectional area and so assist delivery. Lubricant is fed through a top hole in the cylinder wall so as to impregnate a pad assembled in a counterbore of the cylinder.
