Abstract

590,377. Yarn-winding machine stop motions. HOLT, Ltd., T., and BRIERLEY, E. Jan. 17, 1945, No. 22886/44. [Class 120 (ii)] In a winding machine stop motion, for winding spun fibres, the feeler finger 11 sensitively balanced and the gravitational fall of the feeler upon failure of the yarn is assisted by the positive pushing action transmitted by a loaded lever balancing the finger, whereby the finger is caused to operate the stop motion positively without the assistance of any mechanically driven operating mechanism. The feeler wire 10 is mounted on the axle 11 of a cam plate 12 in a housing 13 secured to the machine frame. Bearing against the lower face 12a of the cams 12 is a roller 14 carried by the shorter arm of a lever 15 weighted at 16. Pivotally mounted on the fulcrum 17 of the lever 15 is an arm 18 furnished at its top with a peg 19b, a portion of which lies in the path of the cam 12 and a portion 19b of which forms an abutment for a roller 20 carried by a lever 21 forming a part of the stop mechanism proper. When the yarn fails, the feeler 10 falls so moving the cam 12 anti-clockwise, the roller 14 engaging the face 12c thereof to press the cam in the same direction, so that it is moved positively, while the abutment 19b is moved to free the roller 20 to allow the lever 21 to turn to effect stoppage of the winding operation.
